How do you know when to break up?

I have learned quite a lot through my relationships these past few years, but the one thing I find I don’t have much experience with is break-ups. All of my relationships have either ended mutually or because of the guy.

Things between my current boyfriend and I are… not going anywhere, at least, not from what I can see. We are not the most compatible. But he doesn’t act like our relationship is a problem at all, and it seems like he wants to continue on.

I don’t want to hurt him. And I don’t want to regret anything, like ending a relationship too soon and not giving him a chance.

What are the clear signs that you should end a relationship (excluding infidelity, b/c that is a given)?
